Muhammad Junaid Safdar serves legal notice to Zafar Hilaly for spreading false news of his arrest in London through tweet
ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (SABAH): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s son Muhammad Junaid Safdar has served political analyst and former diplomat Zafar Hilaly a legal notice for allegedly claiming Junaid Safdar was arrested in London for having a fake degree.
The legal notice has been served to Zafar Hilaly by Barrister Zafarullah Khan.
It is said in the legal notice that we have been instructed by Muhammad Junaid Safdar son of Muhammad Safdar Awan, resident of Sharif Farms, Jati Umra Road, Lahore, Punjab Pakistan, (Client) to serve upon you the Legal Notice to the following effect:
That the Client is a law abiding citizen of Pakistan who went to United Kingdom for higher education, where he studied at different prestigious universities and successfully graduated with the following degrees:
BA Politics from the University of Durham
MSc Global Governance and Ethics from University College London
MSc International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science
BA Law from University of Cambridge
It is said in the legal notice that our client is not a political figure and has not connection of any sort with political activities, except the fact that he is a member of the family whose members are leaders in politics in Pakistan.
It is said in the notice that on 11th September you deliberately and intentionally twittered to defame and humiliate our Client and his family in the following words:
“Calibry font ke bad jali degree, London ma Maryam Nawaz ke bete Junaid Safdar ki jali degree lene par giraftari”.
We presume that the tweet was made from your twitter account as till today, after three days of the tweet is widely circulated on social media, you have not contradicted or denied it:
That is part of the smear and malicious campaign launched against democratic forces of Pakistan not only to defame the personal reputation of our Client but his family also. This publication of the tweet is against golden injunctions of Islam upholding truth and personal dignity and the Articles 4, 9, 10-A, 25 and 35 of the Constitution, Defamation Ordinance 2002 and Common law principles enshrined in the laws of our land:
That alleged news of arrest of our Client is fake as the video is from 2018 when our Client was arrested after acting in self defence to an assault by some miscreants on the residence of his family and following the arrest London Metropolitan Police carried out an investigation and decided not to take any future action;
That you are hereby called upon to do the followings;
Retract from the aforesaid defamatory statement/tweet against our Client in the same mode and manner in which it was published to the public at large;
Tender an unconditional and unqualified apology with acknowledgement of your mistake in making a false statement/tweet;
Immediately pay an Amount of Rs 500, 000, 000/-(Five Hundred Million Rupees) to our Client as damages;
Through this legal notice, you are called upon to address the issue immediately, failing which we have standing instructions to initiate legal proceedings i.e. Civil and Criminal, against you, entirely upon your risk and cost.
