Monem Zafar demanded authorities to launch a thorough probe as almost entire network of roads in Karachi is in shambles after light rains in city
KARACHI, Aug 16 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar has demanded the authorities to launch a thorough probe as almost the entire network of roads in Karachi was in shambles after light rains in the city.
He expressed these views, here on Friday, while commenting over the situation of roads in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the occupation mayor was mulling to issue new tenders without fixing responsibility for the prevailing situation of roads.
He particularly highlighted the case of Jahangir Road that was in shambles despite multiple times carpeting.
He further said that the roads constructed under the CLICK program have worn a miserable look after light rains in Karachi.
Even the newly constructed and carpeted roads were badly affected by light rains, emitting a strong signal that corruption, mismanagement and kickbacks were involved in it, he said.
Quoting some media reports, he said that the broken roads in Karachi were causing serious health problems, particularly affecting spinal cord, to bikers.
The JI leader held the Pakistan People Party government in Sindh responsible for the destruction of Karachi roads.
He said that the PPP regime spends billions of rupees in carpeting of roads every year but practically not even a single road in Karachi was in examplary condition.
The mega city contributes by 90 percent for the provincial budget, he highlighted while asking for due share in resources for the city.
