Ministry of Defence notifies Gen. Syed Asim Munir as new COAS, Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza as CJCSC
Also issues notification of retirement of incumbent COAS Gen. Bajwa & CJCSC Gen. Nadeem Raza from 29th & 27th Nov respectively
ISLAMABAD, Nov 25, (SABAH): The federal government has appointed General Syed Asim Munir as the next Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), notifications issued on Friday said.
S.R.O. 2053(1)/2022,-In exercise of powers conferred by Article 243(4)(b) of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973 read with Section 8A of Pakistan Army Act 1952, the President on the advice of the Prime Minister is pleased to approve the promotion of PA-25031 Lt. Gen. Syed Asim Munir, HI(M), Inf to the rank of General with immediate effect and his appointment as Chief of the Army Staff for a period of three years with effect from 29th November 2022, the notification read.

The notification of the appointment of General Sahir Shamshad Mirza as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) is as under:
S.R.O. 2053(1)/2022,-In exercise of powers conferred by Article 243(4)(b) of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973 read with Section 8A of Pakistan Army Act 1952, the President on the advice of the Prime Minister is pleased to approve the promotion of PA-26470 Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza, HI(M), Inf to the rank of General with immediate effect and his appointment as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee for a period of three years with effect from 27th November 2022.

The notifications have been issued by Deputy Secretary (Army-A), Government of Pakistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) (Defence Division), Fakhar Iqbal Chaudhry.
Meanwhile the retirement of outging Army Chief General Qamar Javed and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Raza have also been notified on Friday.
According to the notification issued by the defense ministry on Friday:
No-4/18/D-2(A—II)2022,-In terms of Rule 12 of Pakistan Army Act Rules 1954, the Prime Minister has been pleased to approve retirement of PA-19617 General Qamar Javed Bajwa, NI(M), Inf with effect from 29th November 2022 from Army service, with normal benefits.
The notification of the retirement of incumbent CJCSC General Nadeem Raza read as:
No-4/18/D-2(A—II)2022,-In terms of Rule 12 of Pakistan Army Act Rules 1954, the Prime Minister has been pleased to approve retirement of PA-24207 General Nadeem Raza, NI(M), Inf with effect from 29th November 2022 from Army service, with normal benefits.
The promotions and appointments of the senior officers follow the application of relevant articles of the Constitution of Pakistan and Section 8-A and 8-D of Pakistan Army Act.
