Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Umar Ayub Khan file nomination papers for PM election going to be held tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, March 02 (SABAH): Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the joint candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Sunni Ittehad Council’s candidate Umar Ayub Khan have filed their nomination papers for the elections of office of Prime Minister going to be held today (Sunday).

Secretary of National Assembly Tahir Hussain received the nomination papers. Special Secretary Muhammad Mushtaq and Syed Shamoon Hashmi were also present on the occasion.

The nomination papers in respect of Main Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif were proposed by MNAs Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema, Rana Tanvir Hussain, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Zaman , Attaullah Tarrar, Abdul Aleem Khan and seconded by MNAs Ms. Romina Khursheed Alam, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Laghari, Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhry, Kessoo Mal Kheel Das Kohistani, Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and Haji Jamal Shah Kakar.

The nomination papers of Umar Ayub Khan for Prime Minister of Pakistan/ Leader of the House was proposed by MNAs Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser, Riaz Khan Fatyana, Umair Khan Niazi and seconded by MNAs Mohammad Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, Ali Khan Jadoon , Mujahid Ali and Malik Mohammad Amir Dogar.

The National Assembly will elect the next prime minister through open voting/ division today (Sunday).

Newly sworn-in MNAs will participate in the voting process for the prime minister’s position.

The coalition led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has named Shehbaz Sharif as its candidate for the coveted post for a second term. Whereas, PTI-SIC has nominated Umar Ayub Khan as its candidate for the coveted post.

A candidate needs 169 votes in the 336-member parliament to be elected as the premier.

Earlier on Friday, Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was elected speaker of the National Assembly. The results of election held on the basis of secret ballot were announced by the outgoing speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf.

According to results, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq polled 199 votes while his rival PTI-SIC nominee Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar got 91 votes. A total 291 votes were polled and one was rejected. After the election, Ayaz Sadiq went to Aamir Dogar and shook hands with him. He also shook hands with Hamid Raza and Omar Ayub Khan.
