Mehmood Saghar expresses serious concern over the continued illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders lodged in different jails of IIOJK & India


ISLAMABAD, August 19 (SABAH): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter Convener, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, has expressed serious concern over the continued illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders lodged in different jails of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and India.

Scores of Hurriyat leaders including APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Fehmeeda Sofi, Naheeda Nasreen, Mushtaqul Islam, Dr. Hameed Fayaz, Maulana Mushtaq Veeri, Abdul Rashid Doowoodi, Maulana Abdul Wahid Kishtwari were booked under frivolous cases and lodged in different jails of India and IIOJK. Senior APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, continues to remain under house detention in Srinagar since August 2019.

Mehmood Ahmed Saghar in a statement issued in Islamabad said the jailed leaders who were already suffering from multiple ailments have been now kept in solitary confinement, which is nothing but a sheer political vendetta.

He deplored that the Indian authorities are not producing these leaders before court on the date of hearing of their cases just to prolong their unlawful detention.

He appealed to the international community and world human rights organizations to conduct a thorough visit to all jails of India and IIOJK to get the firsthand account of the condition plight of the Kashmiri prisoners and put pressure on India to release them without any further delay.
