Maryam sworn in as first female CM of Punjab
LAHORE, Feb 26 (SABAH): The newly-elected first ever female Chief Minister of the Punjab Maryam Nawaz has taken the oath of her office at the Governor’s House in Lahore on Monday. Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman administered the oath.
On this occasion, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Quid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, PML-N President Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, members of Punjab Assembly, along with a large number of party leaders and workers were present.
Earlier, during the session of the provincial assembly held in Lahore on Monday, Maryam Nawaz of Pakistan Muslim League-N was elected as the first ever woman Chief Minister of Punjab.
She secured two hundred twenty votes. Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan announced the result of the voting process.
Sunni Ittehad Council had fielded Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan as its candidate. However, the Council boycotted the entire electoral process.
Speaking in the House after her election, newly elected Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced various measures to provide relief to common man.
Maryam Nawaz said she is the Chief Minister of the entire province, irrespective of party affiliation.
She said that doors of her chamber will always remain open even for the Opposition members as well.
She also thanked the party leadership including Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif and allied parties for showing confidence in her.
The Chief Minister said that she has no sentiment of vendetta against any political opponent.
Maryam Nawaz said that she wants to see Punjab as a successful business hub.
