Marriyum Aurangzeb expresses satisfaction over Pak’s improvement in the World Press Freedom Index by seven points

ISLAMABAD, May 05 (SABAH): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has expressed satisfaction over Pakistan’s improvement in the World Press Freedom Index by seven points.

In a statement issued on Friday, Marriyum Aurangzeb said this is a reflection of tolerating difference of opinion and indicates also that we are on the right direction with good intent.

She said the report by Reporters Without Borders shows that the government is pursuing a democratic path vis-a-vis the media. This report, she said, manifests the difference between a democratic government and the undemocratic imposed government.

The Information Minister said efforts are afoot to erase the stigma of ‘Media Predator’ on Pakistan’s face. She pointed out that Imran Khan was declared Media Predator in 2022 and during the last year of that dark reign, the country dropped 12 points on World Press Freedom Index. During the four year of Imran Khan’s government, Pakistan’s overall ranking fell by eighteen points.

The Information Minister said Imran Khan’s four year of mess is gradually being cleared. She said the world is also recognizing that the era where different oppressive tactics were used against the media is gradually coming to an end.

The Information Minister felicitated Pakistani nation and the media over improvement in Pakistan’s ranking in Press Freedom Index.

She said it is welcoming that this progress on the media front has been achieved during the one year leadership of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

Marriyum Aurangzeb expressed her gratitude to God Almighty that the country has yet again earned a good name after exit from FATF grey list.

Paying glowing tributes to the journalists and their associations who waged a struggle for the freedom of expression and braved all sorts of oppression, the Information Minister said this journey of improvement will be continued with their cooperation and guidance. She expressed the commitment to give further impetus to this constitutional right of freedom of expression and media.
