Liaqat Baloch welcomes announcement of general elections on February 11, 2024 by ECP

ISLAMABAD, Nov 2 (SABAH): Naib Emir Jamaat-e-Islami and President Political Electoral Standing Committee, Liaqat Baloch while welcoming the announcement of general elections on February 11, 2024 by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during the hearing of petitions filed with the Supreme Court of Pakistan has said that they were in fact demanding the same of announcing elections day to end uncertainty prevailing in the country.

In a statement, Liaqat Baloch said that Supreme Court ordered the ECP and Attorney General for Pakistan Barrister Mansoor Usman Awan to hold a meeting with the president today for announcement of elections date due to which a delegation of ECP would hold a meeting with President of Pakistan after some time.

He further said that Supreme Court’s efforts for holding elections are satisfying and welcoming and added now the ECP should hold a free, fair and transparent elections in the country without accepting pressure from any side. He said the Supreme Court should hold accountable to those elements who were involved in delaying the elections while committing violation of Constitution.

Liaqat Baloch said that political stability and national security needs holding of free, fair and transparent elections in the country and added all parties should be given a level playing field during the elections as keeping someone out of elections is against the spirit of Constitution and democracy which is why ahead of elections, there is a dire need of ending the doctrine of necessity.

He stressed upon ECP on implementing and ensuring its code of conduct and take effective steps and measures to stop the use of large amount of money during the elections as it is detrimental to electoral process and democratic institutions.

Liaqat Baloch further said that there is a need of restoring people’s confidence in the electoral process that the elections should be held in free, fair and transparent environment as in case of otherwise it will create skepticism and political engineering regarding the upcoming elections in the country.
