Lawmakers penalise necrophilia with a dead body
ISLAMABAD, Sep 11 (SABAH): A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior was convened on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Senator Shahadat Awan at the Parliament House. Senators Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui and Samina Mumtaz Zehri, along with representatives from relevant departments, were also present.
The committee was scheduled to review various Private Members’ Bills; however, due to the absence of the bill movers, these bills were deferred.
Amidst deferral of most bills, the committee unanimously approved the “Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2024,” introduced by Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri. The bill aims to address a legal gap concerning necrophilia. It seeks to establish a clear legal stance against the act of necrophilia—defined as sexual assault on a deceased body—by penalizing it under relevant criminal laws. This move reflects a commitment to uphold the sanctity of the dead in accordance with Islamic teachings. The bill was passed with amendments proposed by the ministry.
Additionally, Public Petition No. 5873, which addressed a complaint against the NADRA Mega Centre in Karachi, was resolved.
