Law & order will be ensured according to the rules, procedure & the Constitution: Azam Nazir Tarar


ISLAMABAD, May 24 (SABAH): Minister for Law and Justice Senator Chaudhry Azam Nazir Tarar has said the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) will ensure protection of the residents of Islamabad as per provisions of the law and fascist gangs will not be allowed to invade the federal capital.

Responding to Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shahzad Waseem’s objections during Session of Senate in Islamabad on Tuesday, Azam Nazir Tarar said that mature and democratic leadership of the entire Pakistan is now representing the Federal Government. He said these are the pro-democratic people and believe in upholding the law and the constitution. He said law and order will be ensured according to the rules and procedure and the Constitution.

The Law Minister reminded the Opposition Leader in the Upper House of not issuing production orders of parliamentarians like Ali Wazir, Khawaja Muhammad Saad Rafique, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Rana Sanaullah Khan and others when PTI was in power.  

Earlier speaking on a point of order, Opposition Leader in the Senate Dr. Shahzad Waseem strongly protested police raids on the residences of PTI leaders and workers in Punjab and other parts of the country. He, however, assured the House that PTI’s long march will be peaceful and no hindrances should be created in the way of our protest. Later, the opposition staged a walk-out from the House.

The House was informed on Tuesday that a toll-free Helpline 1099 has been established, which is providing free legal advice to the victims of human rights violations.

Responding to a question during Question Hour, Minister for Human Rights Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada said the government has taken measures, including enforcement of laws and establishment of various institutions.

He said the National Commission on the Rights of Child has been established to monitor the children’s rights’ violations in the country.

He said a Child Protection Institute has also been established, which provides protection and care to the street and vulnerable children in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

The Minister said “The Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Agency “was established to raise alerts, response and recovery of missing and abducted children.

Responding to another question, Minister of State for Power Muhammad Hashim Notezai said the government is trying hard to reduce power load-shedding in the country. He said efforts are being made to correct technical faults and arrange fuel, in sufficient quantity, for power plants to fulfill electricity needs of the country.

Meanwhile, the opposition returned to the House and ended its boycott of the proceedings of the Senate.

“The Elections (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022” and “The General Statistics (Re-Organization) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022” were presented before the Senate.

The House adopted a motion moved by Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Dr. Shahzad Waseem authorizing the Chairman Senate to make nominations to the Parliamentary Committee constituted to evaluate shortcomings of previous elections and make recommendations for the electoral reforms to ensure that elections are held in a free, fair and transparent manner.

The chairman was also authorized to make changes in the nominations as and when required. The House has now been adjourned to meet again today (Wednesday) at 10:30 AM.
