Lahore, police stopped the women of Jamaat-e-Islami from going to Rawalpindi, women workers stage sit-in

LAHORE, July 29 (SABAH): The police stopped the women of Jamaat-e-Islami from going to Rawalpindi. The police seized the buses and dropped the women, on which the women’s wing of Jamaat-e-Islami staged a sit-in at Mansoorah Multan Road.

Due to the sit-in, the traffic system was badly affected and long queues were formed. The women also were carrying children. On this occasion, the women raised slogans such as “Larna hoga, marna hoga, dharna hoga, dharna hoga,” and they demanded that electricity should be made cheaper. The women said that everyone is very worried because of the bills. They said, should they pay for the bread, bills or children’s fees, life has become a spectacle.

However, later the women’s sit-in was ended and the traffic was restored. Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson Qaisar Sharif said negotiations, arrests and obstructions cannot go together, where the caravans are stopped, there will be a sit-in.

Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami West Circle Lahore Abdul Aziz Abid said that the Punjab government mistreated women, Punjab police has become a state. Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaqat Baloch said government should come to their senses as protest is our constitutional and democratic right. He said police should return our buses, Punjab government should not create obstacles for women to participate in Rawalpindi sit-in.
