Khurram Dastagir lauds energy cooperation between Pakistan & Iran


TEHRAN, June 20 (SABAH): Federal Minister for Power Engineer Khurram Dastagir Khan held a one on one meeting with Iran’s Minister for Energy Ali Akbari Mehrabian in Tehran on Monday. The meeting aimed at increasing avenues of cooperation in energy field between both neighbours.

Both sides discussed various aspects electricity supply from Polan to Gawadar. Federal minister for power lauded the energy cooperation between Pakistan and Iran and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen the relations. He stressed on the need to expedite the electricity import project. Both long term and short-term energy plans were discussed.

Meanwhile Member of Pakistan People’s Party Nadeem Afzal Chan described the project of transferring gas through Iran as a solution to energy crisis.

Speaking to Iranian official news agency “IRNA”, Nadeem Afzal Chan stressed boosting the exchange of delegations between the two neighboring countries and called for developing bilateral cooperation, especially in the trade sector. He added that developing interactions with neighbors, especially Iran, would be in line with Pakistan’s interests.

He said that Pakistan needs to overcome the energy crisis at home, and considers the Iranian gas project as a solution to this challenge. He called for finalizing the project to transfer Iranian gas to Pakistan.
