Kashmiris being punished by an adverse state for holding the legitimate political belief: Ghulam Muhammad Safi
ISLAMABAD, April 29 (SABAH): Tehreek-e- Hurriyat Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi and spokesman in a joint statement said the hue and cry of so called largest democracy’ has given India special gravitas and legitimacy, while human rights violations continue to goes unchecked.
Reacting on relentless display of administrative and arbitrary detentions, G. M. Safi said, under the draconian law like PSA, Kashmiris, irrespective of their age and gender, especially youth are being booked and shifted to outside the valley jails. kashmiris are being punished by an adverse state for holding the legitimate political belief.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi while expressing concern over ill-treatment of Kashmiri prisoners, said the Kashmiri detainees were being punished for their political belief and legitimate political rights. It is unfortunate despite frequent appeals that none of rights organizations have visited jails in Jammu and Kashmir and across India where Kashmiri prisoners are lodged in dismal and in pathetic conditions. He said the health condition of these prisoners has deteriorated owing to prolonged detention which is extremely inhumane and illegal.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi mentioned that both sons of Shaheed Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai are illegally languishing in Jail. They are neither being produced before court of law nor being released, it is so shameful for Indian leaders and local administration.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi urged the world bodies and international organisations fighting for the prisoners’ justice to visit the jails in Jammu and Kashmir and also various prisons in India where Kashmiri prisoners are lodged and to build pressure on New Delhi to release the inmates who have are facing no offence other than the demand for their legitimate right—the right to self-determination.
The spokesman said that, ”The state under its draconian laws like Public Safety Act (PSA) brazenly booked leaders, activists and youth in false cases and is subjecting them to illegal detention which is highly condemnable, and is worst form of human rights violations. He said many Kashmiri prisoners languishing in various jails have completed their term, but continue to languish in jails which is against principles of humanity, added that majority of Kashmiri prisoners have been shifted from Valley to various Indian prisons in brazen violation of Geneva Convention and state Supreme Court ruling that lays emphasis on keeping prisoners in jails closer to their homes.
Statement further reads that,” Modi’s visit has to yield nothing for India except hatred in the hearts and minds of Kashmiris. It is a futile exercise, which has been frequently done in past. Kashmiris have generated spontaneous reaction in the form of complete shutdown against these odd and meaningless activities not only on April 25th but also more strongly in the past.
