NEW DELHI, Oct 03 (SABAH): Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Muhammad Altaf Shah, who is also son-in-law of late Hurriyat icon Syed Ali Shah Geelani, fell seriously ill and was shifted to ventilator at New Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
According to Kashmiri female journalist and Muhammad Altaf Shah’s daughter Ruwa Shah, she was allowed to see her father at the ICU of Ram Manohar Lohia hospital on Monday morning for five minutes.
She said it came into her knowledge at the hospital that her father was at advanced stage of cancer and was put on the ventilator and continued cancer had spread to his whole body.
During the course of meeting, Ruwa Shah maintained that her father opened his eyes but was not able to talk and added doctors told her that only his brain is alive, but the rest of the body organs had almost stopped functioning.
Shah was arrested in 2017 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with an alleged terror funding case and for “aiding militancy” in Kashmir.
According to sources, Shah’s medical recorded was being hidden from his family members.
Doctors told his son on the condition of anonymity that the patient was on the death bed.
Shah’s daughter Ruwa Shah had pleaded for granting him bail or permitting an access to his medical record but however both of these were rejected. Due to unavailability of medical record; an alternative medical opinion cannot be sought.
