Karachi’s mayor elections be held again while nullifying previous polls: Sirajul Haq
ISLAMABAD, June 20 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Sirajul Haq has said that it is a misunderstanding with regard to the Sindh’s ruling party about being a democratic party and that what happened in Karachi’s mayor elections was blackmark on the face of democracy thus they were wanted that city’s mayor elections be held again while nullifying previous elections.
Sirajul Haq expressed these views during an interview with a private TV channel. He further said that coalition government of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) consisting of 13 parties was not capable of sorting out the problems of the masses and deplored “what is done is done with the nation but now nation needed to be given powers to elect a new government of their choice.”
According to his information, Sirajul Haq revealed that people had been short-listed for the caretaker prime minister post and their interviews were underway, and expressed optimism that this year would be an election year. In the light of law, all the political parties should be taken into confidence on the name of caretaker prime minister of the country, he said. “Such a person should be suggested on whose name all the political parties could develop consensus,” he added.
Emir Jamaat-e-Islami said that it was a misunderstanding with regard to the Sindh’s ruling party that it was a democratic party [but indeed the case is otherwise] and added that what happened in Karachi’s mayor elections is blackmark on democracy thus they were wanted that city’s mayor elections be held again while nullifying the recently held previous elections.
He termed the Sindh’s ruling party a property of family wherein no-one from outside the family was given an opportunity of the leadership. While explaining, he said that former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari announced that next prime minister of the country would be his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari but he didn’t say this the next premier would be from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) which demonstrates the way of thinking of [so-called] pro-democratic party, as portrayed by media.
In the past, he said people used to love other human beings and their stories came into existence. “People used to listen to their stories during the nights like those of Layla and Majnun but sadly nowadays they are themselves Layla and Majnun as they were awkwardly hell-bent on loving themselves,” he added.
Sirajul Haq said that Karachi is the biggest city of the country and an economic jugular vein but it has been suffering since long. People were pinning their hopes that local bodies’ elections would be held and their problems would be resolved through the local government but PPP left the masses wailing. “Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that this would be done again. How someone could believe in such democracy?” he questioned.
