Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah becomes member of Judicial Commission of Pakistan


ISLAMABAD, August 15 (SABAH): Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Monday became a member of Judicial Commission of Pakistan, setup for the appointment of judges in the superior judiciary.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah was made member of the Commission replacing Justice Syed Sajjad Ali Shah who got retired from the post of judge on August 13 after completion of his 65 years age.

It is noteworthy here that in the superior judiciary, the Commission for the appointment of judges comprises nine members and this  Commission is headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Atta Bandial.

For the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, other members include four senior judges of Supreme Court of Pakistan including Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, one member nominated by Chief Justice of Pakistan with the consultation of four senior judges is Justice (retd) Sarmad Jalal Usmani; meanwhile other members of the commission include Attorney General for Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf Ali, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Chaudhry Azam Nazeer Tarar Advocate and representative of Pakistan  Bar Council Akhtar Hussain Advocate.

It is important to note here that at present there are total 17 approved seats of judges in the Supreme Court of Pakistan while five of them are lying vacant.

Five names put forth by the Chief Justice of Pakistan during the previous month meeting for the appointment of judges could not be given approval after the opposition by the majority of the members of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
