Jamaat-e-Islami to resist any govt’s move to give legal cover to IMF’s conditions: Ameerul Azim

LAHORE, Jan 01 (SABAH): Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Ameerul Azim has stated that Jamaat-e-Islami will sternly resist in case the government tries to give legal cover to the conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and if it happens the demonstrations will be taken out outside the residences of lawmakers, offices and international financial institutions.

Addressing a presser along JI Central Secretary Information Qaisar Sharif and Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Central Punjab, Muhammad Javed Kasuri at Mansoorah on Wednesday, Ameerul Azim demanded of taking back cases against leaders of ‘Gwadar Ko Haq Do Tehreek’, especially Maulana Hidayatur Rehman Baloch and others, their release and complete restoration of rights of people from Gwadar.

He stated that the downtrodden masses were not worthy of sacrificing further while fulfilling the conditions put forth by the IMF and added that Jamaat-e-Islami was going to begin three-day ‘Inflation March’ from February 10 from Lahore to Islamabad to be headed by Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq. He announced the second agenda of ‘Inflation March’ was the restoration of rights of masses from Gwadar. 

This present government did not come into power but it was built which has lost the credibility of governing the country anymore. He also called upon holding elections across the country and continued if the incumbent government remains as it is, only elite class will be able to save its skin thus he appealed to the nation to come out of their homes for the sake of safeguarding their rights.

Moreover, secretary general Jamaat-e-Islami demanded of completing the local bodies’ institutions. Besides demanding imposition of restriction on the import of raw materials, he also asked for the same for all the luxury items.

Ameerul Azim denounced the ghastly attack on a mosque located at Police Lines, Peshawar a few days ago in harshest possible terms and termed it failure of the government and the agencies.

Before this the terms related to rigging of polls were very common, he noted, and added now the same is the case with the judiciary. He deplored those who were held criminals and punished in the past, now suddenly being purged of while taking clean chits from the courts.

Ameerul Azim maintained that even before the commencement of discussions with the IMF, the current government threw petrol bomb on the masses and now it was going to raising electricity prices. It lies in the agenda of IMF to covert Pakistan into a consumer-society, he concluded.
