Jamaat-e-Islami rejects the defamation law: Hafiz Naeemur Rehman
LAHORE, June 9 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that Jamaat-e-Islami rejects the defamation law. He said that the black law was passed in the dark of night. Jamaat-e-Islami was the first party to oppose and reject the bill. Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan going abroad on this occasion raises many questions, he said.
This was stated by Hafiz Naeemur Rehman in a statement issued from Mansoorah on Sunday. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that Acting Governor Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan’s signing of the defamation bill is tantamount to banning the freedom of expression. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are equally involved in preparation, approval and implementation of this black law.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that the defamation law is a heinous attack on the constitutional right to freedom of expression, adding Jamaat-e-Islami stands with the Joint Action Committee and its declaration. He said all journalists’ organizations have declared it as an anti-human law, adding they will consult with journalists, civil society and all schools of thought against this black law. They will make peaceful political and democratic resistance against the black law, he added.
