Jamaat-e-Islami has developed a national agenda to spearhead a movement for reform: Hafiz Naeemur Rehman

LAHORE, June 01 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has identified several key factors contributing to the collapse of the national economy, including massive debts, costly agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), tax exemptions for feudal lords, and the ruling elite’s lavish spending of state resources.

Addressing a press conference at Mansoorah on Saturday, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman highlighted that in the current situation, the wealth accumulated by the rulers is often transferred abroad, as illustrated by the Dubai Property Leaks scandal. He asserted that a government established on a fraudulent mandate cannot effectively address these issues. Consequently, Jamaat-e-Islami has developed a national agenda to spearhead a movement for reform.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman announced that he would present this agenda to the public in two days. He demanded the government review agreements with IPPs and introduce land reforms. He said the government must provide relief to the small farmers and also reduce the prices of bread and flour.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said the JI appreciated the talks between Islamabad and Kabul, adding the governments of both Islamic neighbours should reflect responsibility in the wider interest of the betterment of the people of two countries and piece in the region. He said the completion of Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline Project was solution to the problem of energy shortages in the country. The rulers must shun US pressure and start construction, he emphasises.

The JI Emir said the US perpetual support and backing to Israeli’s terrorism in Gaza was not a hidden fact. But, he said the silence of rulers of Islamic world on these atrocities was badly hurting the sentiments of Muslim Ummah. The governments of Islamic countries and particularly Arbs and Islamabad must show some spine and issue a clear warning to Israel, he demanded.

He appealed for the boycott of Israeli companies’ products, asking the youth to show support to Palestinians like the students in US and Europe are demonstrating. He said the JI would hold Gaza Million March in Karachi on Sunday (tomorrow) and appealed the people to ensure their full participation in it.

JI Secretary General Ameerul Azim, Secretary Information Qaisar Sharif and JI Lahore chapter Emir Ziauddin Ansari also attended the presser.
