National cricket team will win the hearts of entire Pakistani nation by defeating India in the Champions Trophy: PM Shehbaz
LAHORE, Feb 07 (SABAH): Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on Friday.
PM Shehbaz Sharif was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Senator Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister commended the Punjab Government, the DG FWO, the PCB and others associated with the renovation work for completing the project in a remarkable manner in one hundred and seventeen days.
Appreciating the performance of national cricket team in recent months, the Prime Minister expressed the confidence that Pakistan will also lift the Champions Trophy. He said the national cricket team will win the hearts of entire Pakistani nation by defeating India in the Champions Trophy.
The PM said the project saw the light of the day at a rapid pace. The renovation, he stated, was an example of Mohsin Speed. He said Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi deserved appreciation for his spectacular efforts in this regard.
The premier added he hoped that the Pakistani batters and bowlers would live up to their expectations and provide many moments of relief to the masses.
Earlier, PCB chief reviewed the arrangements for the opening ceremony of revamped Gaddafi Stadium on Friday.
Mohsin Naqvi, who reached the stadium soon after wrapping up his China visit, directed officials to make extraordinary arrangements for the event.
Fans can look forward to a series of colourful events, including live singing, stunning fireworks and a unique light show. Renowned singers Ali Zafar, Arif Lohar and Aima Baig will grace the stage with electrifying performances, followed by a dazzling drum and firework display.
The opening ceremony comes ahead of the Pakistan versus New Zealand match on Feb 8. The tri-nation ODI series will be followed by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which begins on Feb 19.
Under the leadership of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB has transformed the stadium into a modern cricketing venue in a record 117 days. The stadium now features brighter LED lights, two new larger score screens and comfortable imported seating in all enclosures, ensuring an unparalleled viewing experience for fans.
Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has personally overseen the reconstruction process, making frequent day and night visits to monitor progress. His dedication has resulted in world-class facilities, including newly built hospitality boxes and upgraded amenities for both players and spectators.
Naqvi said, “Our venues are now on a par with international standards and we are proud to offer cricket fans the best possible experience. The transformation of this stadium in such a short time is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team”.
“First of all, I thank the workers who made the impossible task possible. The combined efforts of Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), NESPAK, the contractors and PCB teams have turned this dream into reality. Despite criticism, our team remained committed and Allah Ta’ala made our path easy,” he added.
The stadium’s enhancements ensure that fans will enjoy a world-class cricketing experience, with improved seating arrangements, exceptional viewing angles and a festive atmosphere. The PCB remains steadfast in its mission to provide top-tier cricketing events and showcase Pakistan as a premier host for international matches.
