Investigation team formed to dig out reasons behind Arshad Sharif’s killing: Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD, Oct 26 (SABAH): Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said an investigation team has been constituted to ascertain the facts related to the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif from the Kenyan police and relevant authorities.

In a statement on Wednesday, Rana Sanaullah said the team will immediately travel to Kenya and submit its final report to the Interior Division. Rana Sanaullah said the investigation team will also completely look into the reasons behind the departure of Arshad Sharif to Dubai and then to Kenya.

The 49-year-old journalist fled the country in August to avoid arrest after he was slapped with multiple cases, including sedition charges over an interview with Shahbaz Gill, a close aide of former prime minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan  during which Gill made comments deemed offensive to the military.

Alleging harassment by State institutions as well threats to his life he moved to Dubai in August and later relocated to Kenya where he was shot dead by the police. However many suspicions were swirling around his murder with someone calling it an intended murder while others were of view that it took police due to folly of Kenyan police.
