‘Int’l Day of Persons with Disabilities’ needs to be marvelously celebrated rather just following conventional manners: Ameerul Azim


LAHORE, Nov 30 (SABAH): Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameerul Azim has said that “International Day of Persons with Disabilities” needs to be marvelously celebrated rather just following conventional manners. He said their capabilities need to be recognized and they should be given opportunities to work in the respectable way for making them a responsible segment of the society so that they don’t feel some type of inferiority complex.

Ameerul Azim was addressing a ceremony as a chief guest on the occasion of “International Day of Persons with Disabilities” held under the aegis of Alkhidmat Foundation of Pakistan. In the ceremony, a large number of disabled persons with particular abilities were invited. He distributed special gifts, wheelchairs and white sticks among the special persons.

Secretary Information Jamaat-e-Islami Qaiser Sharif, Vice President Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Mangat, President Alkhidmat Foundation Central Punjab, Ikramul Haq Subhani, Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore, Ziauddin Ansari, President Alkhidmat Foundation Lahore Engineer Ahmed Hammad Rasheed, Mughees Qureshi, Khalid Ahmed Butt and other notable personalities attended the ceremony.

Ameerul Azim said that the United Nations only allocated a single day annually for the disabled persons while “we need to work for welfare of special persons on daily basis.” He also put forth his suggestion to Alkhidmat Foundation to set up a special desk for sorting out issues of the handicapped.

On this occasion, the disabled persons demanded of the government of Punjab to provide them free of cost transportation facilities of Orange Train, Metro Train and Speedo Bus services and they be registered with Ehsaas Kafalat/ Ration Programme. They also demanded the Punjab government to provide the assistance of Rs 10,000 monthly to the blind and disabled persons. They demanded setting up of handicrafts centers for special persons; providing marriage grant; exemption of income tax as well as admission and tuition fees in government and semi-government educational institutions. They also demanded the government for monetary assistance on the occasions of Eids for crippled persons.
