Indian Supreme Court considers setting up a courtroom in Tihar Jail to facilitate cross-examination of Yasin Malik

NEW DELHI, Nov 22 (SABAH): The Supreme Court of India has suggested setting up a makeshift courtroom inside Tihar jail to facilitate cross-examination of Yasin Malik in two cases filed against him for kidnapping and murder.

The Jammu court had called for his physical presence, while the authorities have pointed out that there are security risks involved if Malik is moved out of jail and taken to Jammu.

A division bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih suggested that a makeshift courtroom could be set up at jail to settle the matter.

“In our country, fair trial was given even to Ajmal Kasab”, verbally observing this Justice Oka added that even witnesses would need to be given security.

Suggesting that a courtroom can be set up inside the jail, the Bench remarked “We need to see how the judge will be posted in jail only for this court”.
