Indian military has used rape as a weapon of war to silence people of Occupied JK who oppose the Indian occupation: Masarat Alam Bhat
SRINAGAR, Feb 23 (SABAH): Masarat Alam Bhat, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference and Muslim League Jammu Kashmir in a statement issued in Srinagar through its spokesperson said that Indian military has used rape as a weapon of war to silence people of Occupied Jammu Kashmir who oppose the Indian occupation. And incidents of sexual violence have been consistently ignored by Indian authorities, leading to a culture of impunity for those who perpetrate such heinous war crimes under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act of 1958 of Indian Constitution.
Masarat Alam Bhat said that the Indian occupational forces committed multiple war crimes against the people of Kashmir. 23 February is one of the blackest day in the history of Kashmir when Indian troopers entered into village Kunan poshpora in district Kupwara and committed most heinous crimes! Mass Rape.
On intervening night of February 22 & 23rd,1990, the Indian occupational forces entered the village and raped the women from 8 to 80 years old of the village.
Kunan and Poshpora were raided that night by hundreds of occupational forces of the Indian army. As many as 200 girls and women were raped that night; nearly 200 men were tortured. Barrns became torture chambers. Next morning, was marked by immense horror and paralyzing pain.
Masarat Alam Bhat said that the situation in Kashmir from last three decades is a matter of grave concern, and the International organisations must take steps to ensure justice for the victims the people of Kashmir.
