India against the wishes of Kashmiri people has unlawfully occupied a large part of J&K: Ghulam Muhammad Safi
ISLAMABAD, Jan 30 (SABAH): In Islamabad, speakers at a seminar stated that India by establishing illegal and unlawful control over a large part of Jammu and Kashmir and using draconian laws, is involved in the genocide of innocent Kashmiris, and it has no right to be called a democratic country.
The seminar, titled “India’s So-Called Democracy: Human Rights Violations in Occupied Kashmir,” was organized jointly by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell Law Affairs Wing, and Islamabad Bar Association at the Shuhda Hall, Judicial Complex on Thursday.
The speakers at the seminar included Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Kashmir Branch, Naeem Gujjar Advocate, President of Islamabad Bar, Altaf Hussain Wani, Chairman of Kashmir Institute of International Relations, Professor Fahad Amin from Quaid-i-Azam University School of Law, Dr. Sajjad Latif, Director of Kashmir Policy Research Institute, Sardar Sajid Mehmood, Incharge of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell Law Affairs Wing, Malik Huzaifa Advocate and Secretary Bar Abdul Haleem.
The speakers mentioned that for several decades, the Kashmiri people have been observing India’s Republic Day as a Black Day. Ghulam Muhammad Safi and Naeem Ali Gujjar stated that India against the wishes of the Kashmiri people, has unlawfully occupied a large part of Jammu and Kashmir and deprived nearly 20 million Kashmiris of their fundamental right to self-determination. They added that the struggle for freedom from Indian occupation continues for the Kashmiris.
They stated that Indian soldiers continue to massacre unarmed Kashmiris. They further mentioned that India is responsible for the killing of Kashmiris, forced arrests, and blinding them for life through the use of pellet guns. They also stated that after revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, India is attempting to change the Muslim-majority identity of the occupied region into a minority, which is a blatant violation of the United Nations’ resolutions.
Other speakers stated that India’s claim of not being bound to implement the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir is incorrect. They mentioned that India had promised in the United Nations to grant Kashmiris their right to self-determination.
The seminar was attended by a large number of officials from the Islamabad Bar, senior lawyers, as well as Raja Khan Afsar Khan, Director of Kashmir Center Rawalpindi, Advocate Nisar Shah, Advocate Dilawar Khan, Advocate Wasi Tahir, Advocate Kamran Yousafzai and Raja Rashid Raza.
