In Pakistan, university is established in each & every building even there is no available building: CJP Qazi Faez Isa
ISLAMABAD, Oct 31 (SABAH): Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa has said that how many universities are in Lahore and Pakistan as well as in London. He said one should visit London and New York to check how many universities are there. In this land of our, university has been established in each and every building and added even there is no available building, university has been routinely established.
A three-member bench headed by CJP Justice Faez Isa and comprising Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Athar Minallah conducted hearing of not conferring upon a degree to a girl student Dr. Asya Tauqir by the Sarhad Medical University. Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) had approached the apex court against the Peshawar High Court order through Hafiz Irfat Ahmed Chaudhry. The respondent was represented by Fawad Saleh Advocate.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez remarked that what is the difference between a college and university and added indeed universities create knowledge whereas the colleges teach the exiting knowledge. Chief justice said he is an old-fashioned person and thinks on the lines of basic things.
He maintained why the court is interfering into the affairs of the PMDC and added if it is not accepting the degree then is there any place where it could be challenged. The chief justice questioned why the lawyers have left in referring the law.
During hearing an interesting dialogue took place where CJP Qazi Faez Isa asked the lawyer what is his actual name and he replied Hafiz Irfat Ahmed Chaudhry. Upon asking he further told that his actual name was Irfat Ahmed and Hafiz was added as memorized Quran afterwards.
To this, the CJP asked what is the need of adding this extra word and further questioned has it been done to show the people. He further said if it has been done to show the people then its reward would not be given to you.
The court restored the case of PMDC of not awarding the degree. The lawyer of the student said that his client Dr. Asya Tauqir did Masters in Public Health from Sarhad University but Khyber Medical University, Peshawar did not award the degree and added it is affiliated with Khyber Medical University for its medical programs. Chief justice questioned whether the work of PMDC is to create confusion.
Chief justice the judges of the high court used the powers which were enjoyed by the petitioner. The court suspended high court order. The court said that it is matter of public importance so it should be fixed again soon. The court has also issued notice to Khyber Medical University, Peshawar and summoned the reply. The court said that the copy of the order should be sent to the respondents along with the court notice. The court while granting more time to the parties for submission of the additional documents adjourned the further hearing of the case.
