In 1971 war, not 30 lakh but only 3 lakh people were killed, Sheikh Mujibur Rehman exaggerated it for the pleasure of India: Lt. Col. (retd) Shariful Haq Dalim

DHAKA/WASHINGTON, Jan 06 (SABAH): Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Shariful Haq Dalim said that the Bengali intellectuals were killed by the Indian army. He said in 1971 war, not 30 lakh but only three lakh people were killed, Sheikh Mujibur Rehman exaggerated it for the pleasure of India.

Ilyas Hussain, a Bangladeshi journalist based in the US, aired an interview with Lt. Col. (retd) Shariful Haq Dalim on his YouTube channel. Shariful Haq Dalim was a Bengali officer of the Pakistan Army who escaped from Pakistan and went to Delhi, where he formed the Mukti Bahini and fought for the freedom of Bangladesh.

Later he contributed immensely in building the Bangladesh Army. He was awarded Bir Uttom, the highest honor of bravery in Bangladesh.

Among the social media platforms, the YouTube channel alone received 8 lakh views, while 55 lakh views were received in six hours. In response to a question, Shariful Haq Dalim categorically clarified that three lakh people were killed in the 1971 war, while Sheikh Mujibur Rahman exaggerated the number to 30 lakh to please India.

In response to another question that Pakistan Army selectively killed Bengali intellectuals, Shariful Haq Dalim clarified that in this war, Pakistan Army could not come out of their cantonments, they were saving their own lives. It was the Indian Army itself that had committed this to instigate emotions of the people, he revealed.
