Impartiality & transparency of sports federations’ elections will be ensured: Rana Sanaullah
ISLAMABAD, Dec 14 (SABAH): Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan has expressed the government’s commitment to organizing regular sports events to provide healthy recreational opportunities to the youth.
Rana Sanaullah Khan was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games, which commenced at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad on Saturday. The Adviser said that inter provincial games should be held biennially.
Rana Sanaullah Khan announced that athletes, who perform well in the Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games, will be granted admission to the High-Performance Sports Academy, which is nearing completion as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision. He further said that these athletes would receive training to international standards at the academy.
He informed that the academy being established at a cost of 207 crore rupees will include a state-of-the-art biomechanics lab designed to improve athletes’ performance and overall physical efficiency.
Outlining government’s major initiatives for promotion of sports, Rana Sanaullah Khan said departmental sports will be revived and all departments and autonomous bodies will be directed to constitute their teams and allocate specialized quota and scholarships for athletes.
He said impartiality and transparency of sports federations’ elections will be ensured. The advisor, however, made it clear that this initiative is not meant to interfere in the independent working of these federations and is rather aimed at improving their viability.
Rana Sanaullah Khan advised the youth to focus on maximizing their potentials and remain wary of the elements that may distract them.
It is pertinent to mention that Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games have been organized by Pakistan Sports Board.
Teams comprising male and female athletes from all the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and Islamabad will participate in the event.
The games will feature competitions in various disciplines, including athletics, badminton, boxing, football, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, squash, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.
