IHC Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan hears constitutional petition of Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui regarding the case of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui
ISLAMABAD, Nov 24 (SABAH): A single bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) comprising Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan on Friday heard the constitutional petition of Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui regarding the case of her sister Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who is jailed in the United States.
After the hearing talking to media outside the court premises, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui’s lawyer Advocate Imran Shafique said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has provided the record of meetings with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and her lawyer in USA Clive Stafford Smith is working on the case, especially regarding the period when Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was imprisoned in Afghanistan.
He said positive developments are expected in the case as the court has expressed satisfaction on the steps being taken by the MoFA.
He said we are working to get shifted Dr. Aafia Siddiqui from the present notorious jail to some normal prison in America as an interim relief, as in the present jail she is facing physical, psychological and sexual torture at the hands of the jail staff. He said some developments are in process that could not be disclosed presently. During the hearing the court asked about the role of Senators.
Advocate Imran Shafique told the court that Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui had apprehensions about her security during her next visit to the US.
Clive Stafford told the court, online, that the visit of the Senators has not been approved. He said the MoFA should help us on this. He said that the MoFA should make sure of Dr. Fowzia’s security, because he will be not with her this time on arrival.
