IGP Sindh Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar transferred amid uptick in terror incidents
KARACHI, May 18 (SABAH): Following an uptick in terror incidents and worsening law and order situation in Sindh, the provincial government on Wednesday transferred Inspector-General of the Police Sidnh Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar to the Establishment Division.
According to a notification issued earlier on Wednesday, IGP Mahar was asked to report to the Establishment Division “with immediate effect” until further orders.
Mahar was appointed as IG Sindh in 2020 after the approval of the federal cabinet.
The provincial government notified that Dr. Kamran Fazal, an officer of Police Serve of Pakistan (BS-21), working as the additional inspector-general of training in Sindh, has now been assigned to hold the acting charge of IG till further orders.
In a separate notification from Sindh Chief Secretary Muhammad Sohail Rajput, Dr. Kamran Fazal, a grade-21 officer presently serving as the head of police training, was assigned to hold the “acting charge of the post of Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Karachi until further orders”. Dr. Fazal has previously served as the AIG Sukkur Region as well.
According to media reports, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah would soon send a list of three police officers to the Establishment Division with a recommendation of the name for the post of Sindh Police inspector general.
On Monday, one woman died and 11 others sustained injuries in an explosion on Karachi’s MA Jinnah road.
Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Dr. Rubina confirmed the death of the woman in the blast, saying that the condition of the four injured is critical.
According to preliminary investigation, an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in a motorcycle to target a police vehicle.
On the other hand, main accused involved in Karachi Saddar bomb blast along with his accomplice has been killed in encounter with intelligence agencies and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel in Karachi in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to details, intelligence agencies and CTD conducted a joint operation in Maripur area of Karachi during which terrorists present in the area opened fire. The law enforcement agencies returned the fire due to which two terrorists were killed.
According to CTD spokesperson, the killed terrorists were identified as Allah Dino and Nawab and belonged to a banned organization. The spokesperson also informed that two other terrorists managed to escape from the scene.
It is worth mentioning here that one person was killed and 13 other were injured in the powerful bomb blast in Karachi’s Saddar on Thursday in which 2.5-kilogram explosive material was under as per the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) findings.
