If people do not get relief from the cruel contracts of IPPs, we will protest again: Hafiz Naeemur Rehman
KARACHI, Dec 15 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the government will not be allowed to run away from ending the cruel and anti-people contracts of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) while follow-up of agreement between Jamaat-e-Islami and government is underway. He said the relief of the contracts so far terminated with the IPPs should be given to the people.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed these views while addressing the members of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi at Idara Noor E Haq. Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Munim Zafar Khan and Secretary Karachi Tawfiquddin Siddiqui also addressed the members while Naib Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Dr. Wasey Shakir also delivered Hadith lesson.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman while addressing the gathering said that in the recent membership drive of Jamaat-e-Islami, more than two million registered members have been made and in the second phase, public committees will be formed at block code level and the organization will be widened and consolidated.
He said that there is a great potential within the Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami, adding the eyes of the whole country are on Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi. Jamaat-e-Islami has made great progress in Karachi and this progress must be maintained, he stressed.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said if the people do not get real relief, we will start protesting again as well as full movement. On the one hand, in the name of principled politics, recovery politics is going on in the country and on the other hand, there is a wrong way of not letting the winners win in the elections, which is insult of democracy and public opinion, he criticized.
The People’s Party’s worst rigging of public elections exposed its anti-democracy policy throughout the country and boosted Jamaat-e-Islami’s reputation and public support, he said. Jamaat-e-Islami got 50 to 60% more votes in the general elections than in the local bodies’ elections in Karachi, but MQM was imposed in Karachi through Form 47, he pointed out.
“Jamaat-e-Islami has always talked about the supremacy of justice, democracy and the constitution while protest is the basic right of every party as the country cannot move forward in the right direction by blocking the way of protest and suppressing public opinion,” Emir Jamaat-e-Islami remarked.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that the biggest loss of the protracted dictatorship in Syria was suffered by the people of Syria and in the current situation the people have got relief and hoped that the struggle of Hamas and the people of Palestine will be successful one day. He said that right of Israel over Palestine can never be accepted.
