IDB Group pledges $4.2 biln at Geneva moot & WB Vice President for South Asia Martin Raiser announces $2 biln: Marriyum Aurangzeb


GENEVA, Jan 09 (SABAH): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that international community and development partners are demonstrating exemplary compassion for flood victims. She said that Islamic Development Bank Group has pledged $4.2 billion at Geneva moot and World Bank Vice President for South Asia Martin Raiser announced $2 billion, responding to Prime minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s call for concrete action

This was announced by Marriyum Aurangzeb in a statement issued on twitter on Monday.

In an earlier tweet, Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the international community and development partners are demonstrating exemplary compassion for flood victims at the international conference on climate resilient Pakistan and Islamic development bank group has pledged $4.2 billion over three years, responding to PM’s call for concrete action.

Later on in another tweet, Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the first plenary of day-long Geneva conference culminated in generous outpouring of int’l community, EU pledged $93 million, Germany $88 million, China $100 million, IDB $4.2 Billion, WB $2 billion, Japan $77 million, ADB $1.5 billion.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said that USAID $100 million, France $345 million, total $8.57 billion, in line with collaborative vision of coalition of willing.

Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has pledged to finance an amount of 4.2 billion dollars over the next three years for achievement of Pakistan’s climate resilience and development objectives.

The announcement was made by the President of the Bank, Muhammad Al Jasser while addressing the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan in Geneva.

He said this amount includes six hundred million dollars of ordinary capital resources from the Islamic Development Bank.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Islamic Development Bank’s financing pledge saying it is very heartening and encouraging.

He assured that his government will leave no stone unturned to implement the reconstruction and rehabilitation plan in letter and spirit.
