RAWALPINDI, August 09: (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has issued a stern warning to the government, demanding the implementation of every point in the agreement reached between the JI and the government committee within the agreed timeframe.

Speaking at a public meeting on Murree Road in Rawalpindi on Friday, he announced that the JI would march toward the Parliament House after 44 days if the government fails to meet the deadline, signaling the beginning of a countdown.

“There is no escape for the government. It must implement the agreement in both letter and spirit or brace itself for a strong resistance,” Hafiz Naeemur Rehman declared.

A large crowd, including women and children, attended the meeting, which was held as a thanksgiving celebration following the successful conclusion of a 14-day sit-in.

The sit-in was organized by the JI to demand a reduction in electricity tariffs and taxes, as well as a review of the agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The government and the JI committees signed the agreement on Thursday.

Rehman said the JI had secured the written guarantee from the government to provide relief to the public regarding electricity tariffs and taxes.

The JI’s nationwide membership campaign is set to begin on August 14 and Rehman would also announce the date for the countrywide strike on the same days.

The Public meetings will take place in Lahore, Peshawar and Multan on August, 11, 12 and on August 16 respectively.
