Hafiz Naeemur Rehman for accountability over Rs1100 billion Karachi package
KARACHI, Feb 28 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Monday asked the federal and provincial governments about details of Rs1,100 billion Karachi package and the Karachi Transformation Plan — announced some 18 months ago.
The JI leader, while talking to office bearers of the JI’s Karachi chapter, directed the party workers to pace up the door-to-door campaign in connection with Karachi Rights Caravans that would be taken out all over the city.
The JI leader said that both the federal and provincial governments as well as the past regime handled the megalopolis as a step daughter and compelled the citizens to face immense problems to fulfill their own greed and at some extant due to their incapability.
Talking about the next phase of the Karachi Rights Movement, he said that the movement belongs to each and every Karachiite without any discrimination of cast, color and creed.
The JI leader also reiterated the party’s demand for holding a fresh census under dejure formula. He also lambasted the MQM and the PTI for their dual standards over the issue. He said that the two parties legalized the flawed results and now a conspiracy was being hatched to ambush the rights of Karachi and Karachiites through the same formula.
Further talking about the issues of the city, the JI leader highlighted the water crises, acute gas shortage, lack of infrastructure and mass transit system as well as other issues.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also expressed his grave concerns over the law and order situation in the city. He asked the Sindh government to take notice of the issue as street criminals were killing people on the streets of the city on every other day.
The JI leader also demanded of the government to restore the mass transit policy — adopted during the tenure of Nematullah Khan when he was the city mayor.
