Govt wants to install it’s own judicial system through Constitutional amendment: Naeemur Rehman


KARACHI, Oct 14 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Ameer Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the government wants to install a judicial system of its own will through the proposed Constitutional amendment, whereas the JI categorically reject any such attempt.

The JI supremo expressed these views while addressing a crowded press conference held at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, here on Monday morning. Speaking on the occasion, the JI supreme leader said peace is crucial during the Shanghai conference but the party won’t allow the government to play it’s politically motivated stroke in this pretext.

He further said that the matter should be taken up after the outgoing chief justice of Pakistan completes his tenure. He urged both the government and the opposition parties to shun discussion on the matter in order to ensure transparency. He said that all the state organs, including the army, the judiciary, the parliament and the bureaucracy need to operate within their role prescribed by the constitution.

Talking about the issue of Independent Power Producers (IPPs), he said that capacity charges agreement with five IPPs have been terminated. He added that Rs411 billion, spared by termination of the agreement with five IPPs, should be channelized to the people. He proposed that as a result of the development, the charges of per unit electricity should be reduced by Rs 15.

The JI leader further said that consultations with 17 more IPPs to bring an end to capacity charges should be finalized immediately. On the occasion, he appealed the chief of the army staff to come forward and announce that the IPPs regulated by the army won’t accept capacity charges.

The JI chief also highlighted the issues of Karachi and demanded the Pakistan People Party government in Sindh to devolve the powers to the local government in Karachi as per the constitution.

He also highlighted the post elections rigging in the local government polls as well as the general elections. The JI leader also strongly lambasted the Muttahia Qaumi Movement over its dubious role for Karachi and Karachiites.

He said that unfortunately the PPP government believes in the system of corruption in the province that enjoys a lion share, 70 percent of all projects in Sindh. He also condemned the Sindh government, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority and the K-Electric over malafied practices and pressing the already marooned masses in Karachi.

The JI supreme leader reiterated his demand to impose fair taxation on feudal lords, instead of taking cosmetic measures for farmers and agricultural labourers. Talking about the issue of interest based economy, he said that it is an open announcement of war against Allah Almighty. He demanded of the government to take solid measures in order to ensure a riba free economy as per the orders of the apex court.
