Govt to respond positively if President asks for trust vote: Azam Nazeer Tarar
ISLAMABAD, Jan 17 (SABAH): Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Chaudhry Azam Nazeer Tarar Advocate said on Tuesday the government would respond positively if President Dr. Arif Alvi asked Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to seek the vote of confidence.
While talking to a private TV channel, Azam Nazeer Tarar said the coalition partners were firmly behind PM Shehbaz and reiterated that the elections would be held as per schedule.
Responding to a question regarding vote of confidence, Tarar said appropriate time was required to seek trust vote and the timing was decided by the National Assembly speaker and the leader of the House.
The minister said that extending tenure of caretaker government was a legal, not a political issue. Punjab would go to polls in 90 days if everything remained normal, he added.
The law minister maintained, “If the President could ask for vote of confidence during the ongoing National Assembly’s session? There is no hard and fast rule in this regard that he asks for this complete in just six hours.”
He further said PML-N supremo Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif directed the party to start preparations for the elections and continued that soon a parliamentary board would be constituted to allocate tickets to candidates.
