Govt making all-out efforts to ease the difficulties being faced by people in flood-ravaged areas: PM Shehbaz
GHIZAR, Sep 02 (SABAH): Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced Rs 100 million for the rehabilitation of Bobar village in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Ghizer district badly affected by the flash floods.
During his visit to the village, the Prime Minister assured the flood-stricken people that government would not leave them alone until all of the families were rehabilitated. He said government is making all-out efforts to ease the difficulties being faced by the people in flood-ravaged areas.
The Prime Minister also directed the authorities concerned to pay compensation of one million rupees each for those families who had lost their dear ones in the catastrophe.
Shehbaz Sharif also ordered the construction of a five-kilometer metal road to facilitate the villagers.
During the visit, the Prime Minister also distributed cheques among flood-affected people of Shisper Glacier of Hunza at a ceremony held at Gilgit airport.
He handed over cheques of eight hundred thousand rupees each among nine people whose houses were completely destroyed during the floods and five hundred thousand rupees each among six people whose houses were partially damaged.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced five million rupees for the health and education of the girl, who lost majority of her family members in recent floods.
The Prime Minister, during his visit to Gilgit-Baltistan on Friday, met the girl, with special abilities, in Ghizer. He also announced to establish an endowment fund in the name of the girl. He directed to utilize all possible resources for the treatment of the girl.
The girl has lost her mother, grandmother and six siblings in the floods. The Prime Minister put a hand of kindness at girl’s head and condoled with her father by hugging him.
While talking to the girl, the Prime Minister asked her that he lacks words to narrate her sorrows and miseries. He said the entire nation is standing behind her in this critical time.
The Prime Minister time and again talked about the sufferings of the girl while interacting with the people during his visit to Ghizer.
Earlier, the Prime Minister was told in a briefing that the floods had killed seventeen people and damaged two hundred and forty-nine houses in the village. Moreover, 794 animals and several orchards were also washed away during the calamity.
