Govt has become a burden on the masses: Sirajul Haq

LAHORE, June 16 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Sirajul Haq has said the government has become a burden on the masses, reiterating the demand for free and fair elections.

Presiding over the meeting of Majilse Shura (consultative council) at Mansoorah on Friday, Sirajul Haq said the leaders of the ruling parties only focused on getting a clean chit in the corruption cases against them during the last one year.

The ruling collation, Sirajul Haq said, presented the worst budget, setting a foundation for the complete destruction of the national economy. He said the masses were burning in the fire of inflation, unemployment and lawlessness. The security situation in Balochistan and KPK was alarming where people were living in the shadow of constant fear and terror, he said, adding a month had been passed to the suicide attack on him in Zhob, but the government was still unable to trace the culprits behind the terrorism incident. He said unfair distribution of resources, corruption, bad governance and an interest-based economy were the problems, and the ruling parties were unable to get rid of the issues. The country, he said, needed capable and honest leadership as the already tested faces could not bring any change.

The Shura session, which would conclude on Sunday, discussed the prevailing political situation and rejected the mayoral elections in Karachi as rigged.

Sirajul Haq, on whose appeal a black day the countrywide protest demonstrations were held against the unconstitutional method adopted in the Karachi polls, announced the JI would approach the courts to get declared the election illegal and also continue agitation.

He said the neutrality and the authority of the Election Commission of Pakistan came under question after Thursday’s episode when the party who received 325,000 votes was declared the winner against those who secured 900,000 votes from the port city in local body elections. The day, he added, was remembered as a black day in the history of Karachi. He said the biggest city could not be left to the wishes of a prince.
