Govt distributed cash aid to 2.8 million flood-stricken families: Shazia Marri


LAHORE, Oct 30 (SABAH): Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Security Shazia Marri has reiterated government’s commitment to complete the rehabilitation phase of flood victims at the earliest.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Sunday, Shazia Marri expressed satisfaction that the government provided cash assistance to 2.8 million flood affected’ families under the Benazir Income Support Programme.

She further said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced seventy billion rupees for the rehabilitation of flood affectees, out of which 96.82 percent of amount has been distributed among flood victims under BISP.

Highlighting the miserable plight of flood affectees, Shazia Marri said that Pakistan suffered a loss worth forty billion dollars due to the unprecedented floods. She expressed regret that still 8.2 million people are seeking medical assistance out of which four percent of women are pregnant.

Expressing displeasure over the large contribution of carbon emissions by the advanced countries, Shazia Marri sought climate justice from the International community as Pakistan is generating a miniscule amount of greenhouse gases.
