Govt believes in freedom of expression: Marriyum Aurangzeb


ISLAMABAD, April 19 (SABAH): Marriyum Aurangzeb has taken charge as Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

On her arrival at the Ministry of Information in Islamabad on Tuesday, she was warmly welcomed by Information Secretary Shahera Shahid, DG Radio Pakistan Muhammad Asim Khichi and other senior officials and was briefed regarding the affairs of the Ministry.

Speaking on the occasion, Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the government believes in freedom of expression and will take all possible steps for the welfare of media houses, organizations and the journalist community.

The Information Minister said the social media will be fully activated to highlight the positive image of the country and those who spread negative propaganda against the state and its institutions will be dealt with iron hands.

She said the role of the Ministry is crucial for promotion of important development projects of the government.

The Minister said the government will also take all possible steps for promotion of drama and film industry.

She said all the important wings of the ministry including PTV and APP have a huge responsibility for dissemination of accurate and authentic information to the people in the current political and economic situation of the country.

Meanwhile Senator Chaudhry Azam Nazir Tarar has assumed the charge as Minister for Law and Justice. He visited the ministry of Law and Justice in Islamabad today where he was warmly welcomed by the Secretary and other high officials of the ministry.

Meanwhile Hina Rabbani Khar has taken charge as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

She visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad today where Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood and other officials of the Ministry welcomed her.
