Ghulam Mohammad Safi elected as new Convener of Hurriyat Conference AJK & Pakistan Chapter unopposed

ISLAMABAD, June 10 (SABAH): Prominent Kashmiri leader Ghulam Muhammad Safi has been elected as the new Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu Kashmir and Pakistan Chapter, while Parvez Ahmed has been elected as the General Secretary and Mushtaq Ahmed Butt as the Information Secretary.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference elections for Azad Jammu Kashmir and Pakistan were held in Islamabad on Monday in which all units participated. In a statement issued after the results, it was said that this election of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference is unique in many ways. This election has been held for the second time after the unity of all groups of Hurriyat Conference.

The statement said that in 1993 All Parties Hurriyat Conference came into existence, adding despite the Indian repressive measures, the struggle of the Kashmiri people continued. The Hurriyat Conference statement said, “Hurriyat Conference’s motto involves the blood of thousands of martyrs. We pay our respects to all martyrs of Kashmir.”

Today, after a long wait and precious sacrifices, this opportunity has come and the selected team of All Parties Hurriyat Conference pledges to work diligently to keep the candle of freedom burning so that Kashmiris can gain independence from Indian rule and the clouds of oppression and tyranny that have been hovering over Jammu and Kashmir for a long time can come to an end. Shaheen Iqbal, Nisar Mirza, Zahid Safi and Muhammad Shafi Dar were included in the Election Commission.
