Funeral prayer of ex-PML-N Women’s Wing President & senior parliamentarian Begum Najma Hameed to be offered tomorrow


RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD/LONDON, Dec 03, (SABAH): The funeral prayer of former president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Women’s Wing, senior parliamentarian Begum Najma Hameed will be offered tomorrow (Sunday) after Zuhr prayer at Aqsa mosque situated near her residence (877, F Block Satellite Town) in Rawalpindi.

She was the elder sister of the Member National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb, and aunt of Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb. Najma Hameed had passed away on the night of Friday at Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi. She was 78 years old.

Begum Najma Hameed’s Qul and congregational prayer will be held on Monday, (December 5) after Zuhr prayer at Aqsa Mosque, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi.

Najma Hameed was a political figure and the identity of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, who was given the title of a born Muslim Leaguer. She remained associated with the Muslim League throughout her life.

She was closely associated with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Begum Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif and supported him from the first day of Nawaz Sharif’s political journey.

With clear principled and ideological commitment and thinking, she fought democratic and political struggles as a Muslim Leaguer all her life.

During the arrest of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the political struggle of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz during the reign of Pervez Musharraf, she was right hand of Kulsoom Nawaz and one of the prominent leaders. Begum Najma Hameed’s house in Rawalpindi remained a political stronghold of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Begum Kulsoom remained under house arrest at her residence.

Begum Najma Hameed remained a member of the Senate twice. She also had the honour of being the president of the women’s wing of the party for the longest time.

Meanwhile PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the death of senior PML-N leader Begum Najma Hameed. Alas! Najma Apa is no more with us, I have been deprives a sympathizer and sincere sister who always supported him, adding that this gap could never be filled, Nawaz Sharif said.

In a statement issued on Saturday from London, Nawaz Sharif said that Begum Najma Hameed never deterred in difficult time and always proved loyalty with party and political thoughts. Nawaz Sharif said that Najma Apa and Begum Kulsoom were like sisters. Nawaz Sharif said that Begum Najma Hameed was Muslim Leaguer by birth and remained Muslim Leaguer from establishment of Pakistan till her death. Nawaz Sharif has paid rich tribute to her services for country, nation, party and democracy. Nawaz Sharif said he expresses condolence with sister Tahira Aurangzeb and daughter Marriyum Aurangzeb. He also prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul and for the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed his grief and sorrow over the death of former president of Pakistan Muslim League (N) women’s wing and senior parliamentarian Begum Najma Hameed.

In his condolence message, the prime minister said late Najma Hameed’s contributions to the supremacy of constitution, democracy, country and party were unforgettable.

She was an embodiment of party ideals, principles, brave, affectionate and faithful personality. Her death was a huge loss to the party as she was a precious asset of PML-N, he added.

On his Twitter handle, the prime minister said that he was grieved to hear about the passing of Begum Najma Hameed, ex-PML-N Senator and the aunt of Marriyum Aurangzeb.

“She was a committed & loyal party leader who served the country, party & democracy with dedication,” he added.

The prime minister further said that late leader was a close confidant and companion of PML-N leader Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and late Begum Kalsoom Nawaz. She played memorable part during late Begum Kalsoom’s political struggle with boldness and steadfastness.

The prime minister expressed his condolence and sympathies with the bereaved family including Tahira Aurangzeb and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb.

He also prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul and for the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.

Meanwhile Pakistan Muslim League President and former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of senior political leader Bengum Najma Hameed. In his condolence message, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain while presenting rich tribute to the political and social services of late Begum Najma Hameed said that with her death the country has been deprived of a principled, intelligent and brave political leader.

Chaudhry Shujaat said that Begum Najma Hameed always did politics based on principles, adding that she passed most of her political time with us. He also prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul and for the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.
