Former speaker NA & ex-Foreign Minister Gohar Ayub Khan laid to rest in Haripur

HARIPUR, Nov 18 (SABAH): The funeral prayer of former Speaker National Assembly and and Foreign Minister Gohar Ayub Khan was offered in the Rehana area of district Haripur on Saturday.

People belonging to all walks of life including social and political leaders attended his Namaz-e-Janaza. Later, he was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Haripur.

Gohar Ayub Khan died on Friday night in Haripur after a brief illness. It is worth mentioning here that Gohar Ayub Khan was the son of former late Field Martial General Muhammad Ayub Khan. Gohar Ayub Khan is the father of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General and former federal minister Umar Ayub Khan.

Gohar Ayub Khan was born on 15th January 1937. He was elected the speaker of the National Assembly on 4th November 1990 and remained on this position till 17th October 1993. Gohar Ayub Khan also served as foreign minister of the country from 1997 to 1998. 

Meanwhile, the Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Khyvber Pakhtunkhawa’s Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah in their separate messages expressed deep sorrow over his demise. They extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family.
