‘Follow judicial instructions on Gulshan-e-Mehran or face the sit-in,’ Hafiz Naeemur Rehman tells Cantonment Board Malir
KARACHI, June 12 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has demanded of the Cantonment Board Malir (CBM) to grant ownership rights to alloties of the Gulshan-e-Mehran project as per orders of the judiciary by June 15 and warned that otherwise the affectees and JI workers will stage protest sit-in.
Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed these views on Sunday while addressing a rally jointly taken out by the affected families and the JI against injustice on the part of the CBM.
A large number of alloties and the JI activists participated in the march entitled Gulshan-e-Mehran Rights Rally. Protestors, carrying placards and banners, chanted slogans against the CBM.
Addressing the protest rally, the JI leader said unfortunately the CBM has become such a negative institution that dents the goodwill of the army. The cantonment boards work under the ambit of the defence ministry so the authorities in the ministry also need to take notice of the ordeal endured by 12,000 alloties of Gulshan-e-Mehran.
He elaborated that the alloties have been struggling for their due rights for the past several decades while the CBM has been declining their due rights despite court orders in their favor.
The situation puts a question mark on the entire judicial system, he said. He also lambasted the PPP for neglecting the issue despite her rule in the city and the province. He appealed the chief of army staff and the Karachi core commander to look into the affairs of the board and play their role to resolve the longstanding issue.
JI leader Tofeequddin Siddiqui also addressed the rally. He said that the board has convened a meeting on June 15 and a sit-in will be held for indefinite period if the CBM doesn’t transfer the ownership rights to alloties on the day.
