Federal, provincial govts ruined Karachi, escape attempts by ruling parties depict results of local govt elections in Karachi: Sirajul Haq
KARACHI, Oct 02 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Emir Sirajul Haq said that the incompetency and apathy of federal and provincial governments ruined the largest city and provincial capital, making it a center of street crimes, broken roads, lack of basic facilities, including health, education and clean drinking water.
Sirajul Haq expressed these views at the local government convention held by the JI Karachi at New MA Jinnah Road, on Sunday. A large number of JI workers, representatives from all walks of life and hundreds of contestants in the local government elections attended the convention.
Sirajul Haq said that the Pakistan People’s Party has captured the city of lights and other parts of Sindh for the last 14 years. The JI chief said that escape attempts by ruling parties depict results of the upcoming local government elections in Karachi.
The PPP and other ruling parties have been trying to get the elections postponed and this attitude comes as a visible sign of their defeat in the local government polls, he said.
Demanding the government to reduce petroleum products prices by atleast Rs100 per liter, he said that the petroleum products has been decreasing in the international market. He also demanded of the government to take solid measures to provide some relief and reduce inflation in the country.
He said that the PDM and the PTI have practically kidnapped the politics of the city in attempt to divert the attention of masses from the actual issues. These opposite parties are on the same page when it comes to the slavery of the IMF, FATF laws, the Transgender Act and other issues, the only disagreement between the two parties are on the basis of their monetary and political interests, he said.
A peaceful Islamic system of governance is the only way forward to make the country peaceful and prosper, said Sirajul Haq. He added that the JI becomes the only option for masses to elect when it comes to competency and honesty hand by hand.
He said that the corrupt rulers have ruined the national exchequer and targeted the Tausha Khana. Talking about cypher scandal, audio leaks and other issues, he said that all these issues are spinning around the dirty politics.
JI Karachi Chief Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also addressed the local government convention. He said that the JI has launched Karachi Rights Movement and took up all the serious issues surrounding Karachi and Karachiites, which were ignored by other political parties. He added that Karachiites have recognized their friends and foes.
Talking about the recent floods, he highlighted that the entire JI team acted as volunteers to mitigate the sufferings of masses. However, he made it clear that non-governmental organizations are not a substitute of the government. He added that the recent floods have further unmasked the real face of the PPP.
He also condemned the PPP government in Sindh over its policy against holding local government elections. He added that the local government setups are the only way to address the basic and long standing issues in the city.
