Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi urges all sections of society & related institutions to use all their efforts to protect rights of children in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Nov 21 (SABAH): Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi has urged all sections of the society and related institutions to use all their efforts to protect the rights of children in Pakistan and stressed upon taking measures so that children can grow up without fear, violence and discrimination.
He further said that we all can provide a bright future to Pakistani children through a positive action plan where their rights and self-respect are protected.
The Federal Ombudsman has said in a message issued on the occasion of World Children’s Day that it is our social responsibility to free children from all forms of exploitation and ensure their protection. He said that many initiatives have been taken so far by the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for the welfare of children across the country.
Among them, a special research study is included as a pilot project in terms of providing education, health and other necessities of life to street children, he said.
There has been more work in this regard in Pakistan, he said. “National Commission for Children” was established by the government and legislation and policies for child rights were enacted. A separate office named Commissioner for Children has been established in the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat.
Apart from protecting the rights of children and preventing cybercrimes against them, it is addressing the complaints received from children. In this regard, there is also a helpline number: 1056, which can be contacted for further information.
Apart from that, the Federal Ombudsman, he said that a process of an awareness campaign through media to provide awareness to parents, teachers and community leaders and community members about the importance and protection of children’s rights is also underway.
