It’s to recall that Maqbool Butt who originally hailed from Trehgam was convicted in the Tihard Jail and executed as a reaction to the assassination of an Indian diplomat Mathray in England on 11th February 1984, while Afzal Guru Shaheed belonging to Sopore, (originally a doctor) was falsely implicated in the Indian Parliament attack and murder case of 13 December 2001 and hanged on 9th February 2013 in Tihard jail. Both the patriots of Kashmir, who advocated liberation of Kashmir were buried in the precincts of the jail after their execution.

Farooq Rehmani said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were paying rich tributes to the brave sons of their soil and reviving their firm faith in the struggle for freedom and right of self-determination.

He demanded that the last remains of Maqbool Butt shaheed and Afzal Guru Shaheed be handed over to their respective families for reburial in their native graveyards in Kashmir.

He called upon the world body to again focus on worst human rights conditions of the disputed region, prevail on India and resolve the 75 years old dispute by implementing the relevant resolutions of the UNSC and upholding the wishes of the people for a permanent and durable peace in South Asia.
