Ex-senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, his wife & other protesters arrested for expressing solidarity with oppressed Palestinians

ISLAMABAD, Aug 31 (SABAH): In response to the protest against the ongoing genocide of Palestinians by Israel in Gaza, Palestine, all the protestors, including the patron of the Gaza Rescue Campaign and former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, his wife Humira Tayyaba, were arrested by the police and transferred to the police station secretariat. Several protesters, including women, were violently assaulted by the police and were beaten by the batons. The protestors were carrying Palestine flags in their hands.

A protest was announced by former senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan at Express Chowk. When the protesters reached the protest site, the police surrounded them. The police said that due to the enforcement of Section 144, any party or group is not allowed to protest. The demonstrators made it clear that protests against the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza continue around the world, there is a need to stand with the oppressed people as it is our constitutional and democratic right, however, a heavy police force refused to allow the protest in favor of the Palestinians.

The protestors started shouting slogans about Palestine, during which the prisoner van and women officials also reached at the site. The police took action and arrested all the protestors. Former senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan and his wife with Palestinian flags were put in police vehicles and shifted to police station. The police also blocked the roads by placing containers on the road to stop the progress of the protesters.

When contacted, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, a former senator of Jamaat-e-Islami, confirmed the arrests and said that the participants of this protest for the oppressed Palestinians were severely tortured by the police, women protesters were also tortured. Violence is being done as a result of the protest against the genocide of Palestinians committed by Israel. Solidarity is being expressed with the Palestinians everywhere in the world.
