ISLAMABAD, June 10 (SABAH): Chairperson Defense of Human Rights Amina Masood Janjua has said that cruelty to prisoners is very serious act and unacceptable. She said Mach Jail, which is also known as Mirchi Ward, has always been notorious for torturing prisoners.
Amina Masood Janjua appealed to Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Khan Bugti and the Balochistan High Court to take strict notice of the ongoing cruelty and oppression of the prisoners by the superintendent Saleem Tareen of Mach Jail and bring him under the grip of the law.
According to the statement issued by the Defense of Human Rights, Balochistan’s Mach Jail, which is also known as Mirchi Ward has always been infamous for the torture of prisoners and it has not stopped the brutal cruelty even today.
Amna Masood Janjua said that there are frequent complaints about a man named Saleem Tareen, adding the job of the prison superintendent is to supervise the prisoners and protect their rights, but when someone become a part of oppression, then questions arise on the justice system.
She said according to various complaints, Superintendent Saleem Tareen and a special constable named Faheem are responsible for brutality, beating and mental torture of the prisoners. She said they deprive the prisoners of basic needs and also subject them to severe mental and physical violence. This is very sad and unacceptable. Such cruelty is not only a violation of the human rights of the prisoners, but also shows the failure of the prison system, she said and added recently, its new achievement is that a man committed suicide due to cruelty. His name is Zahir Achakzai.
Amina Masood Janjua said that cruelty to prisoners is very serious and unacceptable. “I strongly appeal to Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and the judges of Balochistan High Court to take strict notice of the superintendent of Balochistan Mach Jail named Saleem Tareen. He should be brought under the grip of the law and the strictest inquiry should be made,” she added.
