Empowering rural women key for sustainable deelopment: Raja Parvez Ashraf
ISLAMABAD Oct 14 (SABAH): On the International Day for Rural Women, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that today, we celebrate and honor the invaluable contributions of rural women worldwide. Their dedication and hard work in agriculture, food security, poverty alleviation, and rural development are the backbone of sustainable progress.
He said that the rural women play a crucial role in shaping our societies and economies. It is imperative that we not only recognize their pivotal contributions but also take concrete steps to ensure their well-being. This includes providing them with access to essential facilities, such as healthcare and education, which are vital for their empowerment and the progress of rural communities.
“I would like to recall with pride that October 15 was declared ‘National Day for Rural Women’ back in 2009 by the then federal government. However, it is regretted to note that the practice was discontinued later. Our joint endeavor should be to revive the tradition, hence bringing back the focus on the challenges and contributions of rural women in social, economic and political landscape of Pakistan” he said.
“Let us renew our commitment to supporting rural women and acknowledge their resilience, strength, and determination in the face of challenges. Together, we can create a brighter and more equitable future for all, where the voices and contributions of rural women are valued and uplifted” he said.
